Zettai Hero Project (Z.H.P.) Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman Review
Ever wanted to lose and not die in a game? Want to continue moving forward no matter how many times you lose? Sounds crazy doesn’t it? Well NISA brings just that remedy to us with their new and latest series, Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman for the PSP. Z.H.P. is focused on the heroic adventures of the Unlosing Ranger saving the world.
It starts out with the Earth being in danger at the hands of Darkdeath Evilman, who is seemingly the final boss right from the get go. Everyone is anxiously awaiting the arrival of their hero, the Unlosing Ranger, but he is running late. An accident then happens, leaving the Unlosing Ranger in no position to save the world, and a bystander who witnesses the accident, becomes entangled in all the events of saving the world. The world watches as Darkdeath Evilman attacks the Super Baby and question where the Unlosing Ranger is as the bystander makes his way to Darkdeath Evilman. Everything seems confusing as the bystander is thrust into the role of a hero. The bystander loses the battle and ends up in Bizarro Earth, where things are similar to as they were on Earth with a few quirks.
The game, like many popular titles published by NISA, is a dungeon crawler with multiple floors to various dungeons. This game really lives true to the title as the player can lose a battle and still progress in the game. The downside to this is you lose all items and equipment in your inventory when you lose a battle. The solution to this is placing the items and equipments into the storage for future uses. Equips also have conditions that needs to be maintained and repaired when broken due to use in battles. Equips can also be used as chips to upgrade the hero’s body and strengthen him. Completed dungeons can be returned to for experience grinding, equipment hunting, healing items, or money. The hero also gains special moves as the game progresses. There are also 2 different level systems in this game as there is the regular level, which drops back to 1 after completing each dungeon, and the total level, which determines your actual level stats in the game.
The point of the game is to grind through dungeons and fighting and losing to Darkdeath Evilman until end game is reached where he can be defeated. After 2 or 3 stages of every dungeon, you have to fight Darkdeath Evilman and he will overpower you early on in the game. The game will not progress after every dungeon until you lose the fight to Darkdeath Evilman until the real final battle. The battle scene with Darkdeath Evilman also changes throughout the game starting with an 8-bit style that is graphically updated over time.
Z.H.P. is a long game that requires a lot of grinding to have the necessary stats to progress in a way that makes things easier for the player. The game is a great dungeon crawler with a lot of game playtime as well as replay value. Of course, as with a lot of recent NISA titles, it wouldn’t be complete without a Prinny and the Prinny in this game is the hero’s wife. Overall, this is a great game worth checking out for long time RPG fans, especially if you’re looking for a lengthy game.
