True Blood Season 4 (Thus Far) Review

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

Ep. 37: She's Not There

Quick Recap: In the season premiere of the fourth season for True Blood, Sookie returns from a land of fairies to find some surprising new features to Bon Temps. Bill is now King of Louisiana and with Eric as his sheriff, more like Bill's pet, they try to restore Louisiana's trust in Vampires. Tara has left her old stomping grounds for The Big Easy, New Orleans. She seems to have changed everything about herself: her occupation, hair, name, and her sexuality. Sam has found a group that he can relate to, three others that are shape shifters. With his strained relationship with his brother, he needs all the familial support he can get. Jason has finally become an officer of the law. He also has become Andy Bellefleur's V (Vamp Blood) addictions  confidante. Hoyt and Jessica have been living together but they've been butting heads over their dinner menu. Jesus encourages Lafayette to join a local coven with him. Lafayette is a fine addition to the Wiccan gathering. Arelene is having some trouble with her newborn son. She seems to be convinced that her baby has a villainous secret, in which Terry disagrees.

Review: In this mind-blowing season premiere, True Blood isn't holding out on anything. There is true drama between ex-lovers Sookie and Bill… AND Eric. As a love story ends, another one begins as the love triangle that us TB fans have been waiting for! Eric's advances seem to be getting stronger and stronger since Bill is, seemingly, out of Sookie's heart. Even though I loved Sookie+Bill, I am digging Eric's manly man hit ons.

For Tara's storyline, I am just glad Tara isn't as pout and annoying. I wasn't a big fan of her to begin with because her consistent rage against everyone and everything. But now that she has found love and an outlet to let out that rage, she has become less of an irritation.

Jason has finally come full circle. He was a crazed sexual being to drug addict to finally a responsible adult. I am actually liking this Jason. He doesn't need his sister, who has plenty on her plate, to bail him out. But I have a feeling he has more in store for him than just a shiny badge.

The Hoyt and Jessica storyline is actually my favorite out of the whole show! I love where it's going as well. They seem to be a newlywed couple hit with reality; they can't eat the same things. This minor little detail has placed a big speed bump in their road to happiness. Although I want to see this couple stay together forever, there is bound to be some drama that'll shape them up, which is Ah-Okay with me.

Lafayette's situation is getting weirder and weirder. It hasn't been verbally established if he really does have powers. I'm pretty sure in episodes to come it'll be revealed but it's kind of disheartening to see Lafayette not embrace what he is. But then again it is the first episode.

Arelene's storyline is by far the most fascinating out of all of them. Just because it is so timely with the Casey Anthony trial that has been plaguing the airwaves for the pass couple weeks. Mother's having it out for their children. That thought boggles your mind! But what's interesting is that Arelene tries so desperately to find out if her child is evil and at the same time turn a blind eye to it because he's her son.

Overall, this is one of the best season premieres I have ever seen this year. It is explosive and edge of your seat dramatic, with a twist of sexy. I'm extremely excited for the rest of the season!

Ep. 38: You Smell Like Dinner

Quick Recap: Eric tries to convince Sookie to be his, to which she rejects him even though he is her new landlord. In an effort to rid Sookie's Viking pest, she goes to King Bill only to be rejected. A flashback reveals that Bill, during the 1980s, has met Nancy Flanagan before. And through her, he was commissioned to infiltrate and end the previous Queendom of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq. In the present, Tara comes back to Bon Temps to visit Sookie. Soon after the little reunion, Sookie seeks out Pam at Fangtasia to get advice. She's angry that Eric keeps on altering her home, to which Pam shrugs and pretty much says "Tough luck." Meanwhile Tara tags along with Jesus and Lafayette to a coven meeting. Marnie, the coven leader, announces that she wants to resurrect a human being. The party is soon crashed by Eric upon Bill's orders. The coven casts a spell on the unsuspecting viking vampire, which causes him to lose his memory. At Fangtasia, Sookie finds Jessica feeding on a male victim, who isn't Hoyt. In Hotshot, it's revealed that the reason for Jason's kidnapping is because Crystal and Felton want to turn him into a werepanther in order to replenish their werepanther population. Sam's romantic interest, Luna, a fellow shapeshifter, reveals that she's able to turn into another human being. But this is all interrupted by Tommy, Sam's younger brother, who wants to rebuild their bond.

Review: This episode has to be the most exciting follow up to a premiere episode in awhile.

Eric's strong advances for Sookie are becoming more and more aggressive. Him secretly buying Sookie's home is kind of romantic borderline creepy. Nope, it's more creepy than romantic. But even so, it stirs up the tension between Eric and Bill. But what is the intentions of Eric? Is he there just for Sookie's delicious blood and it's healing powers? Or is he there because he genuinely likes Sookie? Well we're probably going to find out soon enough since he has lost his memory and his aggressive side as well.

Bill's intentions seems to be twisted and just as questionable as Eric's, possibly even more! His past connection to the Authority and Nan Flanagan has thrown a wrench in my belief that Bill is a good vampire. But he has the rest of the season to redeem himself.

The coven is getting stronger and stronger. It is also getting clearer as to what they intend to do with their newfound powers. If they can resurrect the dead, than they can control vampires. This is going to be good!

The friction between Hoyt and Jessica is just getting worse and worse. i fear that they may not last! And it has been keeping me up at night.

Crystal and Felton turning Jason into a werepanther is interesting. After years of inbreeding, it has left a few of their members sterile. This storyline kind of makes me laugh. It takes on the stereotype of southerners marrying their cousins and such.

Sam's love interest, Luna, is turing out to be an extremely complex character. When she revealed that she once shapeshifted into her mother, that kind of weirded me out. She was kind of vague as to why she did it. Even so, it was kind of weird.

Overall, this episode was extremely nail biting. The revelation that Eric has lost his memory has made everything more complicated in terms of the story. I'm excited to see the rest of the season.

Ep. 39: If you Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?

Quick Recap: Since Eric is obviously powerless to the witches, Pam asks Sookie to hide Eric, to which Sookie begrudgingly accepts. Sookie seeks out Alcide to house Eric. She finds that Alcide is living with a now sober Debbie. Debbie asks for forgiveness for her trying to kill Sookie. Andy, in an altered state because of V, gets into a fight with Sam. Portia Bellefleur proposes a sexual proposition with Bill. Jessica, in a guilty state, confesses to Hoyt that she fed on another man. But to save her relationship she glamours him into forgetting about it. Jessica gives Arlene's son the creepy doll that keeps showing up in Jessica and Hoyt's apartment. Lafayette goes to Fangtasia to try to make amends with Eric only to be roughed up by Pam. Jesus and Tara come in a nick of time to save him. Pam gives them 24 hours to hand over Marnie to reverse the spell on Eric. Meanwhile, Marnie is begging the spirit that once possess her to possess her again. Jason wakes to Crystal raping him with a line of girls watching and possibly waiting their turn. Tommy finds away to strengthen the bond between him and Sam by defrauding Maxine Fortenberry. Claudine shows up at Sookie's house to convince Sookie to come back with her, upon which Sookie rejects her. In one surprising swoop, Eric shows up and feds on Claudine to her death.

Review: Eric's new doe-eyed demeanor is quick a contrast to his former self. I can't believe Sookie can readily reject his offer of being his. He seems to have no ill-intentions in his amnesia. Not only that he seems to be at a disadvantage when it comes to the witches and Bill.

That creepy doll hasn't been a prominent role  in pass few episodes. it was first revealed in the third season finale, when Jessica and Hoyt first moves in. It obviously has supernatural powers if it keeps coming back to their home. What can it be? And what will happen to Arlene's baby with a doll that quite possibly has supernatural powers?

One of the last scene of Jason getting raped was a bit off-putting seeing as that he seemed like he was in pain. Not only that, there was a line of females waiting and watching. It seemed like a creepy cult.

But the most surprising scene has to be of Eric killing Claudine. This will surely not help the vampires and fairies' relationship any further. Also what would be the affect on Eric? Will he be able to walk in the sun since he was able to drink all of a fairies' blood?

Overall, the episode was fun and interesting. Some of it was quite creepy but then again this show is built on the creep factor. But there are obviously some lingering questions that need to be answered, which makes this a great show. I am invested in it along with 5 million other viewers.
