The Pirates! Band of Misfits

The Pirates! Band of Misfits

With a handful of stars and great visual effects, The Pirates! Band of Misfits is clever and cultivating. The Pirate Captain, played by Hugh Grant, is the protagonist of this Columbia Pictures Film. The story revolves around his journey to win Pirate of the Year. To do this, Pirate Captain and his eccentric crew have to compete against Black Bellamy/Jeremy Piven, Peg Leg Hastings/Lenny Henry, and Cutlass Liz/Salma Hayek to find the most booty (gold) to earn the title. Racing through the waters filled with sea-monsters and mermaids; their crew comes across scientist Charles Darwin/David Tennant, who takes a liking to Pirate Captains ‘prized’ parrot, Polly. He convinces the crew that with Polly he can get them ‘untold riches’ in London. There, they meet Darwin’s sidekick ‘man-panzee’ Mister Bobo and the infamous Queen Victoria/Imelda Staunton, whom despises pirates. Soon the crew discovers that Darwin was not trying to help them but hurt them by giving their exotic pet to Queen Victoria. The Queen also has a hidden agenda for the bird that disturbs the crew and Darwin. Through these unfortunate circumstances, Pirate Captain must choose between riches and being crowned Pirate of the Year, or staying faithful to his friends. The film’s theme of morals and loyalty makes this movie great for all ages. The humor is clever and satiric towards the pirate image. Moreover, the graphics are entertaining; well designed. I rate this film a 9.5. “The Pirates! Band of Misfits; is hilarious, clever, and visually appealing!” -Yenitza Munoz
