From Nippon Ichi Software America, Our Home’s Fox Deity Volume 1 comes packed with 12 episodes on two discs, plus an artbook giving character bios on major characters and scenes from each episode. The story follows the Fox Deity named Tenko-sama, or Ku-chan as the family calls her, as she moves from a shrine after being sealed up for a number of years into the city to protect Toru from the yokai that seek to harm him for his high spiritual energy. However, the story about the yokai is put somewhat on the backburner, as the series mainly focuses on the different deities interacting and living in the modern world. During the twelve episodes, Ku moves to the city with Toru and his family and begins her life there. My personal favorite character has to be the local deity of Toru’s hometown, Ebisu. His character is delightful as the modern money hungry deity who smiles constantly but always has a scheme up his sleeve. While Our Home’s Fox Deity is fun to watch, it’s not particularly deep or mentally taxing. Indeed, no character has any sort of character development. Toru makes the same mistakes at the end of episode 12 as he did in episode 1, and all in all it doesn’t feel like any sort of progress is made.

The box is gorgeous and the artbook inside has some nice pictures and character bios to round it out. It’s an entertaining series, but after twelve episodes in there is little character or plot development, leaving one with just episodes that are barely related. Fortunately there is another twelve episodes, so the story picks up from there. With a gorgeous box, a fun if not deep story, and a very detailed artbook which NISA has added to every release set they have which is always a plus, Our Home’s Fox Deity gets 3 out of 5.
