Now I know when some of you first saw the trailer for this film you were thinking, not another “chick flick.” It doesn’t help that Catherine Heigel hasn’t received the best reviews for her past romantic-comedy films. BUT, let me tell you, you won’t be disappointed with the performance of both Heigel and Josh Duhamel! Writers Ian Deitchman and Kristen Rusk Robinson did an excellent job in dividing the romance and comedy between Heigel and Duhamel. You could pretty much predict the film, but the storyline keeps you interested and stops you from falling asleep or walking out.

The film starts off in the year 2007 with Holly (Heigel) and Messer (Duhamel) going on a first date set up by both of their best friends Peter (Hayes MazArthur) and Allison (Christina Hendricks), who are married to each other. The date was one of those dates from hell! They didn’t even make it past the sidewalk of her apartment complex.

Peter and Allison have a daughter, Sophie and both Holly and Messer are the godparents to her. Here’s where the comedy kicks in, they both hate each other and are constantly making negative remarks toward one another when they get together with Sophie for different events.

Not too long after Sophie’s first birthday Allison and Peter get into a car accident and die. This is where it gets interesting. Holly and Messer receive some shocking news; they’re given joint custody of Sophia!  

The rest of the movie is revolved around Holly and Messer trying to raise Sophia together, while still having their single life, in Allison and Peter’s house. You can imagine their lifestyles completely change. Messer, a stud, had the perfect life being a ladies man and a technical director for Atlanta Hawks TV broadcast, but having a daughter now changes everything. Holly on the other-hand is an independent, controlling woman, who runs her own gourmet bakery and doesn’t date much (very similar to her role in ‘The Ugly Truth’).

They have to prove to their social worker that they are suitable to raise Sophia and get caught in some sticky situations. 

Now go find a date or have a girls night out and watch this film!
