Infamous released May 26, 2009. is an exclusive PS3 game of choice, created by Sucker Punch well known for bringing you the Sly Copper series, where You play as Cole MacGrath, a run of the mill delivery man, who has the fortunate or unfortunate one day is specifically asked for, for a routine job….to deliver a package. Nothing seems out of the ordinary until the package goes off taking a huge chunk of the city and killing thousands. Cole is hospitalized, the city has been taken over by thugs, over the next few days everything had changed as forming gangs, and insane, warped monsters. Lack of food, lack of power have innocent panicking and hiding in fear, Cole awakes and realizes something is different about him, he absorbs any electricity and can even shoot it out his his hands. He spends the next few days training his powers, for the decisions you make, will decide what he will become…...
Coles adventures are daily, he can only fit so much in a days time, wether it be saving the city and its people, or taking out all opponents in his way whoever they may be. All choice in your hands if Cole becomes the Hero of Empire City as its protector or become an Infamous man who does things how he wants, when he wants and takes everything for himself. The more you power the city, the more powers that are unlocked for Cole, making him stronger and more powerful as things goes on. all the choices you make heavily impact your karma, from saving hurt innocents, how you take down your opponents and deal with them, and karma moments which let you chose to be good or bad by your actions all make you who you will be, and through this your powers will change from good (blue energy) to evil (red energy) and even affect your powers. Prepare yourself as you cover all three islands that make up Empire city, soar in the sky, grind on power lines, as you control the fate of Cole and the city.
The graphics are well done as the rendering of the game is clear and at the same time simple. Empire City looks like New York City, the setting for Many Many Super Hero stories as it reminds you similarly to Spider-Man. Cole is his own Battery and when he uses all his powers running to your close by, Car, Phone booth, Power Line and many other items around Empire City not only recharge your powers but also can restore your health when you are critically wounded. This game is roughly about 20 hours long, even longer if you search for every blast core piece and take the time to power up Cole’s abilities to the max. The game play is great and easy to pick up as a free roaming game the enemies keep getting stronger so you will always have a challenge. How you take on your opponents is fully up to you as you can run through the streets with all the people, or you can use his unique Parkour style to jump and climb from building to building, you can walk and eventually surf on power lines and train tracks. You can even ride the on the top of Train or Cars, as eventually glide from place to place. This is a free roaming game so you can go anywhere anytime when you aren’t in the middle of a quest or mission. Missions and Quests have you running around the each island or going between them while you are taking down opponents, helping or taking down Police, saving important people and other random events.
The only fault in the game is that some of the side missions have a really big tendency to repeat themselves, so after doing them about the 4th time you have the feeling of “This Again?” and slowly bores you to stop playing for awhile, but they are a requirement if you want to complete all the missions and take control of the city from any of your enemies. The Soundtrack packs quite a punch as we review the Infamous soundtrack (coming soon)
This is in no way your typical super hero game, but it can be if you so chose to, every mission can influence everything as you begin saving people, hurting people, drain them and protect them. This game puts Cole’s fate and powers in your hand. Prepare yourself for the ultimate power struggle….
