Five new TV shows worth watching this season
Television has long been a medium where people find an escape from their everyday routines and enter into the lives of those displayed on screen. In honor of today’s Primetime Emmy Awards, which celebrate television excellence, here are five new television shows to hit the small screen this season that are worth tuning in to.

1. Ringer: Buffy, The Vampire Slayer fans, rejoice! Sarah Michelle Gellar makes her big television comeback on the new CW drama, Ringer. On Ringer – described as part film-noir, soap opera, and suspense thriller – Gellar plays twin sisters Bridget Kelly and Siobhan Martin, who haven’t spoken to each other in years following a yet-to-be discovered incident. When Bridget finds herself in trouble and escapes the heavy hand of the police, she seeks solace in Siobhan, only for Siobhan to appear to have killed herself. With no other choice left, Bridget assumes the role of Siobhan and must now deal with her own demons in addition to Siobhan’s own mysterious life. Ringer airs Tuesdays at 9pm following 90210 on the CW.

2. The X Factor: Simon Cowell brings his biting personality back to the small screen on his new American talent venture, The X Factor. After having huge success with the show overseas, Cowell left American Idol in 2010 to focus solely on making The X Factor a hit in the states. With the help of his former American Idol sparring partner, singer Paula Abdul, hit-record executive L.A. Reid, and pop star Nicole Scherzinger, The X Factor is poised to be as big, if not bigger, than American Idol. The X Factor premieres Wednesday at 8pm on FOX.

3. New Girl: Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer, Our Idiot Brother), brings her charming comedy stylings to the small screen as a twenty-something trying to get over a bad break up. Looking for a new place to live, she encounters three males who are willing to take her in. With the help on her three new male friends, Zooey’s character Jess will learn about life, relationships, and what it means to be in love. New Girl premieres Tuesday at 9pm following Glee on FOX.

4. The Playboy Club: NBC is adding sex appeal to their Monday night line up by introducing The Playboy Club, a drama based on the first Playboy Club in Chicago. The show will focus on powerful Chicago key-holders who have access to the exclusive club, where they will interact with hostesses dressed in the famous bunny get-up. The Playboy Club is full of recognizable stars, including Eddie Cibrian (CSI: Miami, Third Watch), Amber Heard (Pineapple Express, The Stepfather), and Jenna Dewan (Step Up, Melrose Place) in addition to guest musicians such as Colbie Caillat and Javier Colon taking on the roles of 60s legends Lesley Gore and Ray Charles respectively. The Playboy Club airs Monday nights at 10pm on NBC.

5. Up All Night: You can’t go wrong with the comedy combination of Christina Applegate (Married With Children, Hall Pass), Will Arnett (Arrested Development, Blades of Glory), and Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live, Bridesmaids), who star in NBC’s new sitcom Up All Night. Applegate and Arnett play a married couple, whose life with their newborn is constantly interrupted by Rudolph, who plays the host of a talk show Applegate’s character produces. Trying to balance parenthood, marriage, and the challenges of adulthood provide many laughs and cringe-worthy moments. Up All Night airs Wednesday nights at 8pm on NBC.
