Kicking off Their Summer on Vans Warped Tour: The Expendables
Today is the start of The Expendables' summer on the road. This reggae-rock-metal band from Santa Cruz will be playing on the Tilly's/AP Stage at the Vans Warped Tour all summer long. This will be the first time that this band will be on the tour.
Here's what the band had to say about Vans Warped Tour: "We grew up being fans of the Warped Tour. And there were a lot of bands that were on it so we've always wanted to be apart of it."
Geoff Weers (guitars and vocals), Adam Patterson (drums and vocals), Raul Bianchi (lead guitar) and Ryan DeMars (bass) formed this band in 1997. With their unique style is described as a mix of reggae, ska, surf rock and punk rock, the band grew to popularity and in 2003 they even had their own radio show called Locals Only. Not only that, in 2005 the band put out XXX Rated: A Year in the Life of a Santa Cruz Phenomenon, in which follows them on some of their tours.
In 2007, the band signed with Stoopid Records, after years of putting out their own albums. Stoopid Records is a new independent label formed by Slightly Stoopid. Slightly Stoopid's co-front man, Miles Doughty, has said "The Expendables are the best thing to happen to metal since the 80's, the rise of hair metal dub."
The band has said that "the few years have been pretty good to us. We've kind of grown as musicians. And got a pretty good following."
Through their new label, they released the self-titled The Expendables, which became an instant classic among fans and critics. The Expendables has since shared the stage with artists like NOFX, Slightly Stoopid, Pennywise, Pepper and 311, just to name a few.
Their latest full-length album, Prove It, was released on May 11, 2010 through Stoope Records. Produced by Butthole Surfer guitarist Paul Leary and NOFX's El Hefe, the album features 17 tracks including the single "How Many Times". It also features "Corporate Cafeteria", as heard on SiriusXM Radio's The Faction. Prove It also features guest appearances by G. Love and various members of Slightly Stoopid.
The album debuted at #4 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart, #30 on the Independent Chart and #158 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart. On the digital front, the album reached #15 on iTunes Top 200 and #5 on iTunes Alternative Charts.
Just recently, The Expendables sat down to answer some their fan's questions via Facebook for KROQ.COM in honor of the Vans Warped Tour.
Here's what the drummer, Adam Patterson had to personally say about Warped tour: "This is our first time being on the whole thing. Really looking forward to it. Meeting some cool people, cool bands. And just playing out there in the heat."
