Hanging with Mr. Whiiite and Skrillex at the Wavehouse

While everyone was waiting in long lines at the outdoor concerts, there was a real treat happening at the Wavehouse. Starting at the beginning of summer every Sunday at the Wavehouse was transformed into SunDaze: The cleverly named event that featured various artists gracing the crowd with their music. UnWiredTV was able to catch up with the latest SunDaze event, which featured none other than the up-and-coming dubstep master Skrillex.

Before the artist changed the mood, the Wavehouse was a pretty chill place. Unlike the groupie-love feel that outdoor concerts bring, this pool-house created a very relax hang-out sort of feel. Sand on the floor, wave simulator in the back, and the bars on both ends make this a true getaway paradise. I can see how adding musicians to the mix would easily make this the spot to be at in all of San Diego.

As soon as Skrillex stepped on the stage the atmosphere completely changed. It wasn't as chaotic as you might find in one of the outdoor festivals, but the crowd was filled with energy and excitement. People outside of the venue gathered around the gate to at least hear the electronic beats of the master, even if they couldn't see him. Skrillex played all of the favorites, possessing the crowd with his music. As the girls danced on the stage, the on-stage crew squirted the audience with water guns. Upon further examination, one could see these were actually filled with alcohol. That's one way to ensure everyone is having a good time...

The biggest delight came in the form of Skrillex's follow-up: Mr. Whiiite. Whiiite's rhythmic dub-stepping was like giving red bull to a person with ADD for this energetic crowd. Many people weren't expecting Whiiite's extremely addicting set, but he proved to be one of the highlights of the night.

We were able to catch up with him after his amazing performance. Chris Whiiite has been working in the industry for five years. His career started by throwing parties in Orange County, which eventually grew into a Los Angeles event known as Control. Control was the first place to play Skrillex, as well as other upcoming artists. Whiiite plans to be a very busy man these next couple of years. He plans to work with Skylar Grey, Atari Teenage Riot (who just signed with Dim Mak record,) as well as continue to remix and produce quality dubstep music. He left us with the parting advice that if artists really love their music they have to get it out there, any way possible. Amen.

It's tragic that the Wavehouse's SunDaze events have been flying under the radar for those living in the heart of Los Angeles. The underrated event could have easily owned the summer for any die-hard music fan, and it would have been worth the insanely high gas price. Luckily, we were at least able to catch the energetic presence of Skrillex and Mr. Whiiite before all of us took our one last trip to the beach.
