3D Dot Game Heroes

“The world was once 2D, the King saw that it was uncool ordering it to go 3D. There was no choice so the land was changed to 3D and blocky.”

Return to the origins of many retro RPGs in 3D Dot Heroes for the Playstation 3. 3D Dot Heroes relives the 8-bit era giving homage to so many games we grew up to. As you work your way through 7 explorable Dungeons as one large blocky world map as you must save the world from evil.

The game itself looks awesome and fun, the style looks incredibly funny as you walk around and swing a sword, and depending on your health and equipped weapon it can attack a large radius around in front of you taking out enemies. Dungeons are reminiscent of the first Zelda game, but larger. There are certain keys/items which are needed that can only be obtained later in the game, so you will eventually backtrack, add the completely random story and jokes that covers tons of old school games giving you a whole new outlook from current generation games.

One of the most eye catching aspects of the game is the option to create your character, allowing you to fully word and customize your main character from the game. You can choose from the game’s large list of pre-made characters which is a huge jump from the original 6 characters in the Japanese release. The characters include monsters, wizards, ninjas and even a samurai. You get a 7 color palette (original 8 bit colors) to customize it, and the best part, you can actually customize what the character looks like for different actions that include, walking, fighting and standing, it takes some work but fun nonetheless. One of the things that came up with this was sharing your CAW or maybe getting some other random people made, well the game won’t support online file share but its confirmed you can save it to a usb stick and download or upload your characters online.

The game will have 3 difficulty modes for beginners, veteran RPG’ers or hardcore players. Challenging puzzles to give you headaches but feel proud of yourself when you complete them (puzzles reset if you leave the room but if you complete them they are permanently cleared), the ability to re-fight bosses and 3 different mini games. The game also gives you the option to install the game to your HD, helping the game run faster without much load time, but takes away the special extra from the game, loading wallpapers that are based off of old 8-bit box art.

We just got a small look of the game and it made us want to play it now, but will have to wait till the game releases May 11, 2010 exclusively on the Playstation 3 with a great price of $39.99. Stay tuned for the full game review.
