Xseed at E3

Xseed at E3

It was announced previously that publisher XSeed had entered an agreement with Nihon Falcom who is best known for releasing the series Y’s as well as Legend of Heroes series. Y’s has a huge fan base in Japan since its release back on the NEC PC-8801 in 1987 and since then has moved through time and consoles from the NES to more recently DS, Wii and now thanks to XSeed the Playstation Portable.

The Y’s series follows the red headed hero of many, many legends Adol Christin, who stumbled into the land of Y’s in a ship accident in the first Y’s since then Adol has been traveling the land of Y’s helping those in need and enjoying his adventures. While Japan has seen all seven Y’s titles, plus an extra special game or two on multiple systems. America has gotten a first 3 titles in the Y’s series via PC, NES and SNES, and finally Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim was released on both the PS2 and PSP back in 2006, and since then Adol’s tales never made it quite through to American Shores other than a remake of Y’s 1 & 2 on the Nintendo DS by Atlus last year. Xseed has 3 y;s title scheduled for release that include Y’s Ys I & II Chronicles, Ys: The Oath in Felghana (a remake of Y’s 3), and Ys Seven which is one of the newest Y’s game released in Japan.

The first question that had to be asked was why should fans who played Legacy of Ys: Books I & II play Ys I & II Chronicles? Well why tell us when they can show us, running off the Japanese version the game is completely re done animation wise with a strong 3D look improving from the DS port, and Adol had to attack from the back or the side to avoid taking damage but this time Adol can run around attacking and not stopping given you a more action based feeling for Adol.

Ys: The Oath in Felghan takes Y’s III and gives it a new twist, the game alone has Adol in one giant area and has to proceed by obtaining certain items of spells to proceed and is one of the only titles to have Adol not heal by staying in one place instead Adol must fight and collect healing items from fallen enemies, in a short play through we got to see the well designed fire (lava) stage and a bit of gameplay but this is a must for all Y’s fans.

Both Y’s titles include an extra bonus for the both titles that include both the original soundtrack used in the games, and a new heavy rock version that can be changed anytime in the game.

Last but not least Ys Seven, released in Japan September 2009 has all been lost in a sea of would anyone pick it up for localization and along with Ys I & II Chronicles and Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Y’s Seven finally comes to the US and it completely changes the face of the Y’s series as you know it. Adol being the loner in the first 6 titles now gains partners in his quest exploring the land of Y’s. Dogi a man who has been around since the 1st Y’s joins Adol in his partner as well as a new female character who are both controlled by the games AI, but can be switched at anytime. Skills will be available via equipped weapons so playing around with your arsenal can greatly change the outcome of your battles.

Only shown in pictures hung around the room, I couldn’t help but ask about the Eiyū Densetsu Sora no Kiseki and was confirmed that the series American title “The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky” will be coming in 2011but information on the trilogy wasn’t specified yet, but in their own words everything you knew about the Legend of Heroes series will change, I am more excited playing all 3 previous released titles.

*ALL GAMES ARE PREVIEWED OF JAPANESE GAMES SO STAY TUNED FOR A FUTURE PREVIEW INTO THE GAME AS MORE INFO IS RELEASED.
