The Wii getting a facelift
Even with the announcement of the Wii U, Nintendo isn't done with their current console. According to Gamespot the company will be giving the Wii a new design that will make it possible to position the console in a horizontal position, and would lose it's backwards compatibility...Sweet, now I can lay my console down in the same exact way my regular Wii is positioned right now, and not play any of my Gamecube games....
Luckily, the good news is that the game will come with a Wii Remote Plus, but it would probably be more beneficial to just buy a Wii Remote Plus with a regular console, than buying the brand new redesign.
This puzzles me, as it sounds more like a downgrade then giving the console a much needed facelift. I'm positive there has to be more that hasn't been announced, like a bigger hard drive. Although, the fact that they are doing the redesign even with a new console on the way isn't an unfamiliar method. The Playstation 2 had a slim redesign around the time the Playstation 3 was launched, and the former console had a great life after it's predecessor was released. I'm sure Nintendo hopes the same can happen for their current console, although doesn't it seem like the Wii U is just a redesign of the Wii instead of being a full fledged separate console?
