Halo 4: What Can We Expect?

Halo 4: What Can We Expect?

During last weekend's PAX event, 343 industries gathered to share a little more info on their highly anticipated Halo game. They wanted to reassure gamers that they are committed to the franchise, and have dubbed their new trilogy, “The Reclaimer Trilogy.” The new series of Halo games will primarily focus on Master Chief, as well as the Forerunner civilization.

What's ironic is that we have played Master Chief for three games, yet he still seems to be a character shrouded in much mystery. Hardcore fans got to get a good view of his back story in the Halo novel, The Fall of Reach, but even the novel couldn't answer all of our eager questions. Now that the focus is being shifted to our Spartan hero, I have compiled a list of questions that I hope are either answered in Halo 4, or in one of it's subsequent sequels.

What does Master Chief's face look like?

This is probably the number one question on every gamer's mind. In the novel, The Fall of Reach, they focus on Master Chief's childhood, where he is described to be tall with brown hair and freckles, but I'm sure he has grown into himself since his adolescent past...Although, it would be funny to find out the hero who saved humanity looks like a geek. It may not be the most important question to answer, but it was the one everyone was waiting for at the end of Halo 3. I doubt 343 industries will reveal this with Halo 4. They'll most likely keep this trump card for their final game.

What happened to his home?

According to the novel, Master Chief grew up in a human colony on a planet named, Eridanus II. He was kidnapped when he was a boy for the spartan program, and was replaced by a clone. Master Chief's memory may not be fully restored, but that's one aspect I hope is touched upon in the next game. A promo trailer for Halo 3 had shown Master Chief daydreaming about a peaceful time of his life, sitting next to a little girl. I had always hoped it meant more of his past would be discovered in Halo 3, but it was disappointingly absent. Now is the best time for him to regain his memory so that he may embark on finding out his true origin, and there's no better place to start then home. I'm sure Master Chief is just as eager to learn if the human colony was wiped off the face of the galaxy, or if it's still intact, maybe even thriving.

What happened to his clone?

As stated earlier, Master Chief was kidnapped, and replaced by a clone unbeknown to his parents. Wouldn't it be awesome if Master Chief confronted this clone? What would he do? Wouldn't this clone be just as awesome as Master Chief? Maybe he could potentially be Master Chief's second side-kick, making the clone Robin, and Cortana the Oracle of the series. He could even become Master Chief's nemesis...If there's one thing the Halo franchise could use is a solid and memorable villain. This clone brings up so many possibilities....

Where Is he headed to at the end of Halo 3?

Another obvious question that will definitely be answered in the next game. The real question is what time will the game take place? At the end of Halo 3, he places himself in a cryonic sleep, and tells Cortana to “wake me, when you need me.” This could theoretically mean the game takes place further in time, in an era where all the other characters are dead, and a new enemy is emerging. This seems the most logical approach since 343 industries will most likely like to separate their games from their predecessors', and changing the time period could be the best way to do it.

Is the spartan project really dead?

Master Chief was suppose to be the last Spartan, but why would anyone not want to try the project again after one of their successful subjects saved the entire galaxy? If this does take place many years after the last Halo game it could be an opportunity for the project to be reignited, and the appearance of many other Spartans may make Master Chief more interested in finding out about his past.

Halo 4 won't be released for quite some time, but with 343 industries focusing so much on story, an aspect that the Halo games lacked at times, I am very confident this could be the best Halo game of the series. At least we still have our online multi-player to gank noobs, and t-bag our kills while we wait to adventure with Master Chief once more.
