unWIRED TV: First of all, please introduce yourself for the viewers in the States.

Yasutaka: As capsule as our main focus, we also do a lot of producing of other artists, DJ, as well as making many soundtracks for movies and dramas.

I focus on producing for capsule then move on to broadening our production elsewhere.

unWIRED TV: It seems as if until this latest song, dance music was not the feel of the music genre. I would like to know why the shift from non-dance music to dance music with the latest album music?

Yasutaka: There have been many opinions by many people that capsule has been adding many dance music to their collection of music but I am not intentionally adding more or of it or lessening other types of music.

For me, I am used to creating my own music through my work as a DJ. 

It comes natural for me to create the music during events, but at the same time I realize that music is felt differently with every individual- not everyone has the same feeling to the same music.

unWIRED TV: How was the response to the new album “PLAYER”? What is the accomplishment with this new album?

Yasutaka: I create music not to be heard worldwide or even throughout Japan but rather to be enjoyed and heard by friends that are working or having a good time in Shibuya and Harajuku area.

That is why having not only is it a wonderful feeling but also a strange feeling to be heard and liked by foreigners.

Currently I live and feel life here in Tokyo.  My music and me personally am influenced by the place and fashion of the people here now, but should I decide to move outside of Japan for example, my music may suddenly change its colors.

I would be most pleased if those who like and enjoy capsule’s music would also feel and understand the Tokyo culture.

unWIRED TV: What was the reason for using “Love or Lies” as the theme song for “LIAR GAME?”

Yasutaka: I started producing the soundtrack for “LIAR GAME” prior to it becoming a movie so once the final decision was made for us to do the soundtrack, it was also decided for capsule to do the theme song a little later, “Love or Lies” is one of the many songs from the track that was used for the theme song.

unWIRED TV: What is the direction for capsule?  Will you continue as you have till now or will you be changing directions?

Yasutaka: Capsule is not focused on broadening one particular genre but rather moving in different directions continuously hoping to widen their limits in the music culture. 

The music is created by what is interesting now thus the music is continuously changing.  I am one to make music as I go. 

If I find something fun and interesting that is what makes the music thus I hope to continue producing music that is not set in one single form but rather in all different forms.

unWIRED TV: Capsule is the featured artist in unWIRED TV.
What’s your advice to the upcoming artists?

Yasutaka: Regretfully I have never been to America, but as for me, I would like to make music that is thought to be “cool” music by someone who lives and has the fashion sense that I admire.
That is why I just like to make music that I like the most without a lot of thinking.

unWIRED TV: Your latest album jacket shows a lot of great sense in fashion on your part.  How or where do you get your inspiration in fashion?

Yasutaka: It is because I really like fashion, but club events are very important as well.
Here at “Daikanyama AIR” I would say over 80% of the customers are beautician related events, thus many of the customers have great taste thus I am influenced here a lot as well.
unWIRED TV: What inspires you to keep moving forward even though every step forward seems to have so many different changes from one album to the next?
Yasutaka: I am not deliberately trying to change the way I produce music that I enjoy but rather going with the flow of the world’s changes.

unWIRED TV: You are a multi-talented producer. How is your relationship with the singers to do all that?

Yasutaka: With capsule I am free to do as I please. With the “LIAR GAME” soundtrack or producing for other artists, I am given the opportunity to face new challenges which I would like to continue doing in the future as well.

unWIRED TV: A lot of people in America want to keep in touch with capsule. Is it possible to come to America and play music?

Yasutaka: If there are many people in America who want to see and hear us, then perhaps I would feel the urge to go there.

unWIRED TV: Please promote your new album “PLAYER” in Los Angeles.

Yasutaka: Currently in Japan I do not think that there is a group as independent, free to do as you please as our group. I would be happy if through this album more people would create or want to create more music.

unWIRED TV: What do you think about the “Capsule x Daft Punk x Beastie Boys - Starry Sky YEAH! Remix ” on YouTube?

Yasutaka: That type of music would not have been heard unless someone deliberately edited the music of Capsule, Daft Punk and Beastie Boys publicly.

There are many people striving to be professional music producers producing music by editing other people’s music which is quite normal in this industry, but to be able to have this heard worldwide is something that started recently which I find very interesting.

unWIRED TV: American TV shows are highly interested with your music, we really hope to see you in America, and we can form the big arrangement to have you come over, so can you come and play music?

Yasutaka: I do not think that I will ever go to America unless invited by someone there, so please do invite me.

unWIREDTV: How did you find the talented young Toshiko as the singer?

Yasutaka: Capsule started out as my own love to make music and have the music that I make sung by her and lasted for the last 10 years and not deliberately formatted.

She is very flexible and we are very compatible. I think she stays with me throughout all the things I want do, so I think we have a director-actress relationship.
